Amity Yoga Saturdays give you the chance to spend a little more time in experiencing the benefits of a longer yoga practice once a month.

Wendy says, “I’ve noticed that the opportunity to have a shared lunch is not only fun, but it gives people the chance to talk to each other in a space away from family, commitments and stress. Real friendships have been nurtured by attending Amity Yoga Saturdays, extending beyond the class with practical and emotional support in daily life. Everyone works together to make the day a success, keeping it in their diaries for their monthly fix. And they love the soup!”

Hatha Yoga Rainhill

Meeting in the warm and welcoming St James Methodist Church Hall, Amity Yoga brings together people from across the North West in a mixed ability class, with ages ranging from 18 to over 60. The day gives the students the opportunity to practice different elements of yoga, with time for extended practice and including the opportunity for a deeper meditation and relaxation than is possible in a weekly hour-long class.

The session allows for not only increased physical benefits, such as strength and flexibility, but also space for mental relaxation and for friendship. Discover the benefit of stilling the mind, to become more focused, with improved concentration and the release of tension from the mind and body. Yoga will help you to distress and increase in confidence. We are there together, to share our love of yoga at whatever stage we have reached.

An important part of Amity Yoga Saturdays (10 am till 2 pm) is the time set aside for lunch, getting to know each other over homemade soup in an atmosphere of togetherness. We lay the tables with candles and inspirational quotes, herbal or fruit teas are available throughout the day. A great way to meet new friends and nurture friendships.

De stress with this Breathing Technique

When your feeling stressed have you ever noticed that your breath feels short and irregular?When relaxed the opposite is felt. Observe how you breath when relaxed. Your exhalations extend longer than the length of your inhalations.

To promote relaxation we can focus on gently extending our exhalation by one or two seconds. Each exhalation can be twice the length of the inhalation. Enjoy the feeling of relaxation.

Give it a try

Meditate on this – The Journey by Mary Oliver

One day you finally knew

what you had to do, and began,

though the voices around you

kept shouting

their bad advice –

though the whole house

began to tremble

and you felt the old tug

at your ankles

“Mend my life!”

each voice cried.

But you didn’t stop.

You knew what you had to do.

though the wind pried

with its stiff fingers

at the very foundations,

though their melancholy

was terrible.

It was already late

enough, and a wild night,

and the road full of fallen branches and stones.

But little by little,

as you left their voices behind,

the stars began to burn

through the sheets in the clouds,

and there was a new voice

which slowly

recognized your own,

that kept you company

as you strode deeper and deeper into the world,

determined to do

the only thing you could do –

determined to save

the only life you could save.

Dynamic Mudra Mantra

During this mudra (yoga hand gesture) the fingers move accompanied with mantra Sa, Ta, Na, Ma. As you exhale place one of your fingertips on the tip of each thumb. While inhaling extend the fingers again. Co-ordinate this with the mantra syllables;

Speaking ‘Saa’ press together the thumb and index finger;

Speaking ‘Taa’ use middle finger and thumb;

Speaking ‘Naa’ use ring finger and thumb;

Speaking ‘Maa’ use little finger and thumb.

Use both hands and practice this dynamic mudra mantra for 5 to 30 minutes.

This dynamic mudra is used to promote brain activity and to relax the nervous system. It promotes concentration and creates a feel of inner calmness.

Aim to breathe slowly and focus on an even inhale and exhale. Breathing slowly will help your body and mind to relax.

Give it try. Notice how you feel.

Mantra for New Ventures – OM GUM GANAPATAYEI NAMAHA

OM GUM GANAPATAYEI NAMAHA is a mantra chanted when starting new ventures.

The practice of this mantra has been used to remove obstacles, negative energies and thoughts. To reduce anxiety, release and to let go of emotions.  Clearing stale any energies which can make way for new ventures. A fresh start, a new beginning, a new direction.
