Quieten your mind. Quieten your heart. Let peace enfold you. Pam Brown B.1928
When your feeling stressed have you ever noticed that your breath feels short and irregular?When relaxed the opposite is felt. Observe how you breath when relaxed. Your exhalations extend longer than the length of your inhalations.
To promote relaxation we can focus on gently extending our exhalation by one or two seconds. Each exhalation can be twice the length of the inhalation. Enjoy the feeling of relaxation.

One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
though the voices around you
their bad advice –
though the whole house
began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
at your ankles
“Mend my life!”
each voice cried.
But you didn’t stop.
You knew what you had to do.
though the wind pried
with its stiff fingers
at the very foundations,
though their melancholy
It was already late
enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen branches and stones.
But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
the stars began to burn
through the sheets in the clouds,
and there was a new voice
recognized your own,
that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper into the world,
determined to do
the only thing you could do –
determined to save
the only life you could save.
‘You cannot enter the door of yoga without compassion and kindness for others”

During this mudra (yoga hand gesture) the fingers move accompanied with mantra Sa, Ta, Na, Ma. As you exhale place one of your fingertips on the tip of each thumb. While inhaling extend the fingers again. Co-ordinate this with the mantra syllables;
Speaking ‘Saa’ press together the thumb and index finger;
Speaking ‘Taa’ use middle finger and thumb;
Speaking ‘Naa’ use ring finger and thumb;
Speaking ‘Maa’ use little finger and thumb.
Use both hands and practice this dynamic mudra mantra for 5 to 30 minutes.
This dynamic mudra is used to promote brain activity and to relax the nervous system. It promotes concentration and creates a feel of inner calmness.
Aim to breathe slowly and focus on an even inhale and exhale. Breathing slowly will help your body and mind to relax.
Give it try. Notice how you feel.

OM GUM GANAPATAYEI NAMAHA is a mantra chanted when starting new ventures.
The practice of this mantra has been used to remove obstacles, negative energies and thoughts. To reduce anxiety, release and to let go of emotions. Clearing stale any energies which can make way for new ventures. A fresh start, a new beginning, a new direction.
